Bright Ackwerh is art prize winner
Bright Tetteh Ackwerh, a Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology-trained artist, made a giant leap in his young career when he was announced last week as the 2016 winner of the Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Ghanaian Art.

He was presented with his prize of a trophy and Gh¢20,000 by Professor Emeritus El Anatsui, chairman of the competition’s jury panel.
Ackwerh is an illustrator who relies on contemporary cultural happenings as fodder for his work.
Deryk Owusu Bempah (Photography) was the first runner-up. He received a trophy and Gh¢2, 500. Setor Fiadzigbey (Illustration) snatched the third position and also walked away with a trophy and Gh¢2, 500. The fourth prize of a trophy and Gh¢2000 was taken by Maxwell Boadi (Painting).
Founded in 2014 by lawyer, entrepreneur and art collector, Mr Elikem Kuenyehia, the prize seeks to encourage young Ghanaian artists to pursue excellence in their careers.
