SEVENTH Day Adventist (SDA) School in the Odododiodio Constituency will play host to The BeBookSmart Activation Train Series, an initiative designed to introduce students to Worldreader Booksmart on Thursday, November 24 at 10 am.
The Worldreader BookSmart is an initiative that provides children's books in multiple languages; challenges to jump-start reading; activities that build literacy skills and social-emotional learning; quick assessments to track progress and tips to support caregivers.
Since it started this year, BeBookSmart Activation Train Series has held successful sessions at various schools in Mamprobi, Chorkor and Korle Gonno communities within the Ablekuma South Constituency.
And now it’s the turn of students in the Odododiodio Constituency and the train makes its first stop at SDA School, Hansen Road, Accra. Teachers and students will be engaged to understand the importance of the train and be ambassadors of the app.
The programme is also designed to be a mini literary festival which will feature a BookSmart conversation, satellite workshops on the Booksmart app, literary energizer, a Booksmart DigiRead X’perience and Blast a balloon & read along.
BeBookSmart Activation Train Series is one of the numerous literary activities by Worldreader Ghana to support the National Literary Campaign in Ghana as well as lead the Digital Library campaign at the community level.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, poet and spoken word artiste, Oswald Okaitei, a member of the organising team mentioned that the free admission upcoming programme is also a preparatory grounds for 2022 ‘Accra DigiRead X’perience’ scheduled for Friday, December, 1 2022.
“The literary world is growing and we need to train our young children to cultivate the culture of reading to comfortably live up to a changing world. BeBookSmart Activation was started to increase the interest towards the annual Accra DigiRead X’perience’.
“This year’s DigiRead X’perience will select students from SDA School among others for a Digiread contest and the End of Year ‘BookSmart Brainstorm’ at the Accra Centre for National Culture,” he stated.
