GHANAIAN tradition and culture was once again boosted at this year’s Ghana Day Festival which took place in Switzerland on Saturday, July 15.

The well attended event organised by Agus, the Ghanaian union called Agus in Switzerland was graced by Ghanaians and other nationals from countries such as France, Germany and Belgium.

The day started with the official cutting of the ribbon to commence the ceremony by the guest of honour Frau Maya Burri, the Gemeinde President of Schwamendingen Zurich.

He was aided by the Ms. Nana Krah, Head of Chancery of the Ghana Embassy Bern, Queen Mother of Suma Traditional Area, Bono, Nana Abena Twenewaa(Adonten Hemaa), President of Agus Nurudeen Taimako and other dignitaries.

Patrons to the Ghana Day Festival were treated to traditional music and dance performances from Vincent Ensemble, live band music by the Shabo Crew, Shaibu the Shai Guy, Jenny C, Misslyds and Redwan.

The Ghanaian regional unions all presented their traditional meals at Ghana Day Festival.

Some the foods showcased included waakye, tuozafi, banku and okro soup, fufu with light soup and abunubunu, yam, kelewele, kenkey and fish, Fante kenkey, aboloo and other traditional delicacies.

In addition to all these, the occasion was also used to honour some Ghanaian personalities who have over the years distinguished themselves in various endeavours.

The honoured included Mr. Jeffries Quaye who was instrumental in the formation of Agus. He is presently the president of Ga Adangbe Union in Switzerland and the current organising secretary of Agus.

The other honorees were Mr. Yao Kpodoh and Mr Leeford Acquaye, a founding member of Agus.

In a post interview with Graphic Showbiz, Mr. Philip Wangyimba, a member of the organising team said he was excited that Ghana Day Festival had been a unique platform to promote Ghana’s culture.

“Patronage from Europeans since we started in 2018 has been encouraging and we appreciate the efforts of the team to always make the event a success,” he added.
