The Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra last Thursday attracted many artistes when rapper and singer, Edem, launched his latest album, Books and Rhymes.
Some of the artistes in attendance were M.anifest, Lil Shaker, Gemini, Mzbel, Kaakie, Akwaboah, Obour, Stonebwoy, Joey B, Episode and Coded of 4x4.
Other celebs who attended the launch were TV presenter and host of The One Show, Anita Erskine, and Kojo Sarfo Jnr, former husband of actress, Juliet Ibrahim.
The event kicked off with standup comedy by David Oscar. Comedian, DKB thrilled the patrons to some jokes too. Their acts set the mood for the show which was compared by Peace Hyde and Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD).
As it was to be expected, the Heyba rapper didn’t disappoint when he hit the stage to perform some of the songs off his new 25 track album at the show.
Books and Rhymes is made up songs such as Here We Go, Weed and Liquor, Make Money, Go Gaga, Only in Ghana, Delila featuring Nigeria’s M.I, Love Jeje featuring Chris O, Best Rapper featuring Black Prophet, Over featuring Jupiter, Ohene featuring Obrafour and Girlfriend which featured Raquel.
Backed by the Afro-Harmony band, Edem also performed some of his popular songs such as Latex, Koene which featured Kaakie and rapper, Lil Shaker, respectively.
One spectacular moment on the night was when a video documentary of Edem’s journey to stardom was shown to patrons. It told the story of the Tema based rapper from his days as an up and coming artiste when he was featured on Hammer’s Last Two compilation to his new status in the Ghanaian music circles.
In a response to why it took him two years to release a new album, Edem told Showbiz, “I didn’t want to give anything of low quality to Ghanaians. The competition is getting keener and you can’t afford to lower the standards by just bringing anything out.
“This album was well prepared and it is my Christmas gift to Ghanaians”, he added.
Edem, born Edem Hotor, released his maiden album, Volta Regime, in 2009, and followed it up with Mass Production in 2011. Books and Rhymes is his third album.
