Music is my drug - Adomaa
Although, Hiplife, Hiphop, R&B, Reggae, Dancehall among others are the music genres trending on the Ghanaian music scene, a number of artistes have decided to take a different route, resulting in the steady rise of Afro-jazz music, one of whom is up and coming artiste, Adomaa.

Born to a Ghanaian father and a Nigerian mother, Adomaa real name Joy Onyinyechukwu Adomaa Serwaa Adjeman in a chat with Showbiz, disclosed how strong and confident she feels to be in the music industry and hopes to reach and stay in the limelight because of her unique style of music.
‘’I know I will make it in the industry because my style and genre is quite unique and also the feedback I get from the public have been very positive and encouraging. I strongly feel Afro-jazz is here to stay.’’
The young Afro-Jazz singer has endeared herself to the Ghanaian music lover with her well produced mashups of popular songs such as Baafira, Adonai, Evolution of GH Music and AdomaaMeetsNija which are successfully getting a following on social media.
Adomaa, disclosed that music is part of her life and her passion for music is the only way she expresses herself whenever she wants to say something.
“Music has always been my drug and best friend; it’s just a way I express myself whenever I want to say something. Aside that, I am born into a musical family, so it is in my DNA.’’
Acording to Adomaa, because her parents moved around alot, she had to change schools often. “My parents moved from one place to aother so I attended various schools. I started my basic education in Nigeria and later moved to Ghana when we relocated to continue at Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast. I then did my my tertiary education at Ghana Institute of Journalism, Accra” she said.
Adomaa who is currently under the management of Vision Inspired Music (VIM) Records disclosed that although she studied journalism in school and has practiced as a journalist, all she wants to do now is music. “ I studied Journalism in school and I have practiced for a while, but right now, I am into music full time”.
Asked about her fears and challenges as an upcoming artiste, Adomaa said” I have no fears. I am confident with what I am doing and I think I have a solid team I am working with. I just need to work hard and keeping on pushing to come out with good music.
‘’However, one challenge I feel every upcoming artist faces is the fear of not being able to consistently churn out quality music. It is very easy to be a one-hit wonder and fade out of the system. There is the need to constantly improve and do better than your last album or gig, but I feel with the team I have, I am on the right path. I am covered”, she added.
She released her first project called ‘Afraba, The EP’ early this year and it features tracks such as ‘State of mind (intro Skirt)’ featuring Akosua Hanson, ‘Afraba’ featuring Maame Dokono, Nana Asaase and Kyekyeku, ‘ Shii The Song’ featuring Robin- Huws, ‘Born Again’ featuring Bishop George Adjeman, Traffic Jam, ‘Tempo’, ‘Hollow Spaces’, ‘Sing Out (outro Skit)’ featuring Antoine Mensah.
Adomaa admires Efya and E.L for their music and performances and she looks forward to collaborating with them in future.
