Bigshots to launch maiden album

The Bigshots Band, originally formed as a resident students’ dance band of the Music Department of the University of Ghana in 2008, will on Friday, September 12 launch their maiden Tu Na Me Nsa album at the Efua Sutherland Drama Studio, University of Ghana, Legon.

Tracks on the 10-track album range from songs that seek to revive the Afro-Jazz & Funk feel of earlier Ghanaian popular music to jazz-fusions creatively interspersed with indigenous melodies.

The band’s creative outlook has been boosted over the last years through performances of high profile Ghanaian musicians including C.K. Mann, Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas, Jewel Ackah, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Lee Duodu and Kwabena Kwabena.

The group just returned from a tour of Germany and they draw on an immense heritage of highlife, soul, funk, reggae and Afro-beat which they have creatively remoulded into their own.

Bigshots researches into the great variety of Ghanaian folksongs, nursery rhymes and children’s play songs. No wonder there's a wonderful representation of such stuff on the album which was recorded at the Mastermix Studios in Accra and mixed and mastered in Germany.

Goethe-Institut, the German Cultural Centre in Ghana is supporting the album launch.
