Abrantie thrills at Starr FM launch

He has been a favourite of many lovers of highlife music and even after two decades, ace Highlife musician, Amakye Dede, continues to enjoy the goodwill of patrons anytime he mounts a stage and such was the response he got last Friday when he performed at the Starr FM corporate launch held at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

Even though it was expected to be a corporate launch, it turned out to be a mini concert when the “Iron Boy” performed live for more than an hour on stage.

Backed by his band, the Bebreebe hit maker who was obviously in his element performed many songs from his repertoire such as Akwadaa Wesoa, Odo Da Baabi, Odo Ho Akyereno, Bebreebe and Odo Handkerchief which got the patrons on the dance floor throughout his performance.

As expected, the corporate launch of Starr FM brought together  the crème de la crème of the media fraternity as well as those from the corporate world and Members of Parliament.

Some of the known faces  present were sports presenter, Carl Tuffuor, actor, Adjetey Annan, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ursula Ekuful and Nana Akomea, former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party. 

TV Presenter, Anita Erskine, was the MC for the occasion.

In his welcome speech, the CEO of Starr FM, Mr. Nathaniel Kwabena Anokye-Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray, boasted about the station’s commitment to work hard to become the market leaders among their competitors.

According to him, Starr FM has a mission to become the leading media brand, with a global view of representing “the essence of innovation, excellence and indigenous media brand”. 

He said with the “pack of experts” in the media as staff members, Starr FM hopes to bring on board a new urban radio experience to listeners in the country particularly in Accra.

“Starr FM connects emotionally to every single individual and the format is 60 percent music and 40 percent talk. We want to provide music and talk contents that suit the lifestyle and behaviour pattern of our target listener,” he stated.

He used the opportunity to unveil some of the programmes currently running at Starr FM. They were the Morning Starr, The Zone (Mid Morning Show), Starr Drive, Drop Off, Star News, Weekend Groove and All That Jazz.

In  honour of the memory of the late presenter of BBC Focus on Africa, Komla Dumor, Bola Ray revealed that they will name the Starr FM newsroom as Komla Afeke Dumor since his works served as an inspiration to him and many young journalists.

The Chairman of the National Media Commission, Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere, who was the chairman for the occasion urged the management and staff to make a difference on the airwaves.

“Let your medium be relevant where your importance will be assessed by how you promote national unity through education and information,” he added.
