‘I don't ever want to depend on makeup' - Lupita Nyong'o

At last Sunday night's BAFTA Awards, the actress might have lost out on two awards, that of Best Supporting Actress and the EE Rising Star award, but she won in fashion stakes in a strapless emerald Dior gown.

Opening up to Glamour magazine about her look, she insisted beauty wasn't all about make up and designer dresses.

"I’ve worked hard to feel beautiful in my natural skin. Personally, I don’t ever want to depend on makeup to feel beautiful," she claimed.

Her effortless red carpet style has wowed fashion critics as she continually outshines established stars like Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.

Revealing her look for the season she said: "I love colour. I’m enjoying trying all different shades. Makeup isn’t something I’ve worn a lot of in my life. So it’s good to work with someone like [makeup artist] Nick Barose, who is inspired by my complexion and knows how to work with it."

"I love using natural oils. I use avocado oil and Hawaiian kukui oil on my face. I like to keep things natural, simple, and straightforward."

With the Oscars less than two weeks away, chat has already turned to what the 30 year-old might wear on movie's biggest night of the year. With designers, no doubt, fighting over dressing the star of the moment.

It's not all about fashion though, she's also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Steve McQueen epic.

While she might be in a tight race with Jennifer Lawrence to the golden statue, it appears being nominated was an event in itself for Lupita.

On finding out she told the magazine: "I had a very good cry with my best friend, and then we had a dance party, just me and him."
