Russia’s Chief Justice involved in accident in Ghana

Vyachesla Mikhailovic Lebedev, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian FederationThe Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Vyachesla Mikhailovic Lebedev has been involved in an accident in the Volta Region of Ghana.

The accident occurred at Peki-Sanga on the Ho-Accra road while he was returning to Accra after delivering an address at the ongoing annual conference of the Ghana Bar Association at Ho.

The Chief Justice had attended the conference at the request of his Ghanaian counterpart, Chief Justice Mrs. Georgina Wood.

According to eye witness accounts, the accident occurred when a truck driver who had parked on the shoulder of the road tried crossing to the other side and thus ran into the convoy of the Russian Chief Justice. His vehicle consequently ran into the truck.The Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina T. Wood (holding microphone), flanked to the right by the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo and the National President of the Ghana Bar Association, Nene A. Amegatcher. To her immediate left is the Chief Justice of Russia, His Excellency Vyacheslav M. Lebedev.

He was rushed to the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho where he was given first aid.

Daily Graphic’s Victor Kwawukume who visited the regional hospital, saw the Chief Justice coming out of the x-ray room with pain clearly written on his face. There were however no apparent signs of external injuries.

Not long after, a helicopter arrived on which he was airlifted to Accra.
