Some residents in the Anaji Low Cost Estate in Takoradi have started turning their four-apartment flats into storey buildings without any permit from the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.
Their activities, if not checked, would deprive some of the tenants in the other apartments who share the same walls with these mushrooming structures of their privacy.
Most of the illegal structures have openings that look directly into the other tenants’ compound and this would soon bring discomfort, insecurity and mistrust in the community in the near future.
Some residents have indicated that the character and status of the Low Cost Estate area would soon be lost and the consequences are not far-fetched.
Investigations conducted by the Daily Graphic indicated that other landlords were also putting up similar structures, because the assembly does not monitor activities in the area.
If this is allowed to continue, a day will come when a landlord would pull down his or her apartment and put up a mighty structure that will destroy the beauty of the estate.
“l wish to, therefore, appeal to the assembly to move in immediately to stop those illegal developments in the area,'' a resident at the estate told the Daily Graphic.
