An international money transfer company, MoneyGram, has donated exercise books and copies of Junior Graphic to the Saint Anthony Catholic Basic Schools at Agona Swedru in the Central Region.
The donation was done in collaboration with Junior Graphic, one of the publications of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) stable.
A total of 2,000 exercise books and 5,000 copies of Junior Graphic were presented to the schools at a ceremony last Thursday.
The gesture is aimed at improving the reading, speaking and writing skills of the school pupils.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the GCGL, MoneyGram will buy and distributes 20,000 copies of Junior Graphic to selected deprived public schools in the Eastern, Greater Accra and Central regions over a six-week period.
The GCGL, for its part, is to cover MoneyGram’s promotion and essay competition in the Junior Graphic, Daily Graphic and The Mirror.
Mr Ato Baiden, a marketing representative of MoneyGram, who presented the items, said that the gesture was part of MoneyGram’s ‘’Awaa waa school promotion,’’ which has the aim of helping students to improve upon their academic performance.
According to him, MoneyGram was committed to delivering quality education to students.
He also told the students that the Junior Graphic published stories and articles that would help improve their reading and writing skills and urged the students to patronise it always.
Mr George Marmon-Halm, the Swedru Branch Manager of Ghana Commercial Bank, lauded MoneyGram for its role in the promotion of education in the country.
Receiving the items on behalf of the schools, the Headteacher of Basic School A, Mr Theophilus Addo Zuta, stated that although Swedru is an urban centre, some parents were unable to provide their children with some educational materials, particularly exercise books.
He expressed the schools’ appreciation to MoneyGram for the items since they were important materials that would facilitate the teaching and learning process.
The Swedru Circuit C Supervisor, M. Albert Tawiah, challenged the school pupils to study hard to justify the confidence reposed in them by MoneyGram and Junior Graphic.
