MTN awards 10 Apps developers

 MTN Ghana has awarded 10 people who developed applications to help solve people’s daily problems.

Mr Setriakor Kobla Nyomi emerged the ultimate winner with his “Oware 3D” App, an App that enables people to play the local game, ‘Oware,’ on their phones.

Mr Nyomi was awarded a cash prize of GH¢10, 000, a Samsung galaxy phone and a fully paid trip to San Francisco United Transport (USA) for the mobile Apps world conference.

Messrs Wahib Farhat, Festus Nwobodo, Tessu Ephraim and Divine Puplampu were the other winners and walked away with GH¢10,000 and a Samsung galaxy phone each.

Rinkart Asibey, Lovell Larbie, Patrick Aboagye, Naa Achere Buxton-Tetteh and Nana Kwame Nyantakyi occupied the 6th to 10th positions respectively and they also walked away with special MTN hampers.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Mr Serame Taukobong, said he was satisfied with the kind of applications received during the period of the competition.

He said a total of 55 Apps were received from individual and group developers.

Mr Taukobong also revealed that they would enter into discussions with the winners to feature their Apps on the MTN Ghana App store which would be launched next year and the Apps unveiled on the MTNPlay platform.

The Director-General of the Kofi Annan Centre for ICT Education, Mrs Dorothy Gordon, said mobile apps are increasing on the global economy and according to he, over 30 billion of businesses are done with global apps.

Mrs Gordon explained that the developing of mobile apps provided huge opportunity in terms of youth employment and urged the youth to take their rightful share.
