Summit on oil and gas takes place in Accra

The 8th Annual Ghana Summit Exhibition, a platform for companies to showcase their latest products, services and innovative solutions in the oil and gas industry, took place in Accra last Thursday.

Both local and foreign companies participated in the event and exhibited latest technologies in the sector. Conferences were also organised as part of the exhibition on the theme: “Ensuring Sustainability in the Oil and Gas sector to drive economic development and SMEs harnessing local resources to execute the job’’.

The summit provided a platform for the stakeholders to meet, network and receive updates from the country’s leaders and industry players with the aim to drive Ghana’s oil, gas and power industries forward.

Among the participants were the Ministry of Energy, Ghana Gas Company, GRIDCo, Hy-Lok Nigeria, Codex Fortress Ghana, Pyxera Global, Siemens Oil and Gas Equipment, International Paint (Akzo Nobel) and Fendercare Marine.

Vision

Opening the summit, the Minister of Energy, Mr Boakye Agyarko, said the vision of the government for the energy sector was to develop a modern, diversified, efficient and financially sustainable energy economy.

That, he said, would ensure that Ghanaian industries and homes had access to adequate, reliable, affordable and environmentally sustainable supply of energy to meet their needs and support the government’s accelerated growth agenda.

He said it had been 10 years since Ghana made the historical find of oil and the policy decision was to restructure the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for the exploration of oil and gas and change their operational environment by creating an enabling environment that would positively position them.

Transparency

Mr Agyarko said the government was determined to be transparent in the management of the oil and gas resources, hence, its commitment to pass the Right to Information Bill, among others, to improve transparency in the management of the oil and gas sector.

He said the government, through the implementation of the oil pricing policies, would create an enabling environment and provide adequate incentives to attract investors into the development of the domestic gas sector.

The Energy Minister said the complexity and secrecy in the signing of oil contracts had led the government to come out boldly that the process of oil and gas agreements should be transparent so that the media would scrutinise and hold the government accountable.

He said bold steps had been taken to drive the industry forward and added that Ghana was on its way to prosperity with oil wealth.

Mr Agyarko expressed the hope that the meeting would enable players in the sector to share ideas and information to manage and improve the sector.

The exhibition was organised by the CWC group, a world-recognised expert in oil and gas. The summit presented an unrivalled platform to meet, network and receive updates from the country’s leaders and industry players with the aim to drive Ghana’s oil, gas and power industries forward.
