West Africa Gas Summit opens tomorrow with push on regional gas expansion

STAKEHOLDERS in the gas industry will gather tomorrow at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra from June 9 to 11 for the 2nd edition of the West Africa Gas Summit.

The event will bring together over 200 delegates from government, corporate entities and the business community to deliberate on closing the region’s infrastructure gap, attracting investment, and harnessing natural gas as a driver of industrialisation across the West African sub-region.

The Summit, on the theme: “Rapid Regional Gas Sector Expansion for Socio-Economic Transformation”, is being organised under a strategic partnership between The Gas Consortium (TGC) and the West Africa Gas Pipeline Authority (WAGPA).

This year’s edition is expected to draw more than 20 speakers from the leading state-owned and private sector gas enterprises, as well as senior officials and decision-makers from Energy Ministries, multilateral institutions, regulatory agencies and financial institutions across West Africa

The Summit is designed to serve as a critical regional industry platform connecting enterprise and stakeholder interests across the gas value chain, with a mandate to drive dialogue that yields concrete business outcomes — from new partnerships and project development concepts to regulatory reform and private capital mobilisation.

Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, will be Special Guest at the Opening Ceremony to be held on June 9, where he will also lead a closed-door meeting with industry leaders.

The Summit will be chaired by Tsatsu Tsikata, former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and Counsel to the President of the Republic of Ghana.

Mr Tsikata is well-known for his contributions to the early mobilization of the West African Gas Pipeline project, and is expected to bring his wealth of gas sector experience to bear on the conversations.
