The Royal Bank (TRB) Foundation has spent about GH¢30,000 to support two needy institutions in Accra.
They are the Accra Senior Correctional Centre and the Autism Awareness Care Training Centre.
The support forms part of the foundation’s effort to support the less privileged in society, including autistic children and juvenile inmates in custody who have been abandoned by their families.
The items donated to the Senior Correctional Centre included wall paint, wall brushes, washing powder, antiseptics, sanitisers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet rolls, soap, brooms and rakes, among other household sanitation items.
In addition, the foundation refurnished the Autism Awareness Care Training Centre and further donated a computer and accessories to the centre.
The Vice-President, Strategic Planning, Research and Corporate Affairs of TRB, Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, who presented the items to the centres, said the founder of the bank had a passion to give back to society.
He said the gesture was in line with Jesus’ demand on Christians to give to the needy, visit the sick, prisoners, among others, as recorded in Mathew 25: 36.
He reminded the inmates that sanitation was a shared responsibility and urged them to weed their surroundings regularly.
Dr Baah-Nuakoh said it was the hope of the foundation that the visit and subsequent ones in the future would help properly rehabilitate and reintegrate the inmates into society when they finished serving their terms.
Appreciation
Receiving the items on behalf of the Accra Senior Correctional Centre, the Assistant Greater Accra Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Prisons Service, Sergeant Francis Agbomadzi, commended the TRB Foundation for the gesture and urged churches, corporate bodies and kind-hearted persons to go to the aid of the centre.
He lamented the numerous challenges facing the centre, which included lack of support for inmates who had qualified for senior high school but could not afford to go.
The Founder of the Autism Awareness Care Training Centre, Mrs Serwah Quaynor, thanked the foundation for its kindness and promised to make judicious use of the donation.
