Statistical computations, to him, could turn the fortunes of the nation around, explaining that without reliable and credible data, important economic areas would crawl.

Prof. Nsowah-Nuamah, who is also the Rector of Kumasi Polytechnic, speaking to the Daily Graphic in an interview, was emphatic that statistics was more objective compared to any computations.

That was after the 20th anniversary celebration of the GASS at the campus of the Kumasi Polytechnic in Kumasi.

Prof. Nsowah-Nuamah said it was necessary to train statistics students, particularly members of the GASS, on new methodologies and use of modern software.

He called on statisticians to be professional in interpreting data in the form of statistics.

The National Patron of the association, who doubles as the head of department of Applied Science at Kumasi Polytechnic, Dr Bashiru I.I. Saeed, who spoke on the theme, “Statistics for effective development”, re-iterated the need to form such an association at the student level.

He said for the past 20 years, there had been different softwares used and mentioned the open-sourced R-Software and the SPSS as some of the softwares used in modern times to help in most areas including health.

Dr Saeed, however, emphasised that the right information through statistics must be given to consumers to enhance proper data collection for effective planning.
