A nine-member committee has been inaugurated to spearhead the transformation of the Suame Magazine Industrial Development Organization (SMIDO) into an internationally renowned industrial complex.
The committee is also expected to ensure that the organisation is positioned to be competitive on the global stage.
It is chaired by the District Chief Executive of the Afigya-Kwabre District, Mr Kaakyire Oppong, in whose district 1,000 acres of land have been earmarked for the industrial complex project.
Inauguration
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Adusei, who inaugurated the committee on behalf of the regional minister, urged the committee to resolve issues concerning the necessary documentation on the land.
That, he said, would lead to the sod-cutting ceremony for the commencement of the project within two months.
Mr Adusei said the early resolution of all the documentation issues would also spur on the partner of the project, the Multi-Donor Partnership, under the leadership of the Danish Embassy, to come and invest in it.
He commended SMIDO for demonstrating rare perseverance and leadership in the pursuit of a project of that magnitude.
The chairman of the committee said the team would work assiduously to ensure that the project came on stream within the limited time given to the committee to resolve all the bottlenecks.
Committee members
Other members of the committee are Mrs Emelia Botchway, District Co-ordinating Director; Mr Isaac Owusu Mensah, District Planning Officer; Mr Eric Yaw Owusu, District Engineer, all of the Afigya Kwabre District Assembly, Mr Clement Sarpong, Chairman of SMIDO Land Committee; and Mr Nyaaba-Aweeba Azongo, a consultant to SMIDO.
The rest are Mr Mark Williams, a representative of the Danish Embassy; Mr Palma Afesi from the United Pension Trustee, Corporate Managers of the Suame Magazine Industrial Development (SMID) Fund; and Nana Owusu Apeasa II, the immediate past Presiding Member of KMA and Chief of Adubinsukese, the custodian of the land earmarked for the project.
