MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunications company in Ghana, has successfully passed quality of service monitoring tests conducted by the National Communications Authority (NCA) in the Central, Western, Ashanti, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions from February to April 2014.
A statement from the company said “The monitoring exercise is conducted regularly by the NCA across the country to monitor the quality of services offered by telecommunication operators in Ghana”.
It said the performance indicators measured included; call set up time, call drop rate, stand alone dedicated control channel congestion rate, traffic channel congestion rate and call completion rate, adding that “MTN passed all five indicators measured in the six regions.”
According to the statement, commenting on the quality of service monitoring results, the Chief Technical Officer MTN Ghana, Mr Hendrik Vorster, asserted that “offering a dependable quality of service is a priority for us at MTN because it is the only way we can differentiate our services from others and meet our customers’ expectations.”
He indicated that “MTN is excited about the results of these drive tests, as they demonstrate the positive results of our consistent and aggressive capital investments. We assure all our customers that MTN will continue to make significant investments to improve service delivery.”
The statement said since its entry in the country, MTN Ghana had invested significantly towards the improvement of its network, indicating that the company had invested approximately GH¢1.7 billion into various network improvement initiatives to improve both coverage and capacity issues.
In 2013, it said “MTN Ghana started a major modernisation project to expand and optimise its network. The benefits to customers include faster data services, improved voice quality and coverage expansion.”

Meanhwile, MTN, Africa’s biggest cellphone service provider, seems to be forging ahead towards meeting its corporate social responsibility goals.
The latest example comes from West Africa, in Ghana, where the telecommunications giant recently delivered a state-of-the-art senior high school its Foundation built at the cost of GH¢437 000 (about $136 563).
The newly-inaugurated Owerriman Senior High School, located in the Ashanti Region,was overrun by old age and lack of maintenance. But now, it is a modern two-storey building with 16 rooms for the boys’ dormitory, thanks to MTN.
MTN Ghana Foundation Chairman Prof Franklin Manu said his organisation was committed to implementing sustainable initiatives that would help enrich people’s lives.
MTN Foundation said it has spent more than GH¢14.5million (about $2.7 million) to finance educational and health projects and support economic empowerment projects.
