Mantrac Ghana Limited has introduced a new technology that reduces the number of people that operate a machine during a road construction process.
The new technology involves a GPS system, which is installed on the various machines used in road construction and is expected to save production cost and time in road construction.
The device, AccuGrade, was introduced to the construction industry during a road construction seminar hosted by Mantrac in Accra.
The Managing Director of Mantrac Ghana, Mr Emad Adeeb, explained at the seminar that the system allowed a machine to work on its own with just one operator, thereby saving human effort and time associated with the conventional way of road construction.
He added that a software of how the construction would be carried out was often developed at the office within some few minutes and then installed on the machine to carry out the work.
Mr Adeeb noted that at a time when contractors were looking for innovative ways to maximise their productivity and lower their operating cost, the new technology could significantly improve their bottom line and meet project completion schedules.
He added that the system brought to the customer an increase in productivity by up to 40 per cent, while helping to reduce their site cost.
On the seminar, the Mantrac MD said it was to support contractors with the right expertise in order for government to achieve its infrastructure development targets, of which road construction is fundamental.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Amin Amidu Sulemani, was hopeful the seminar would be the beginning of many more relevant and exciting exhibitions that would help transform the construction industry in the country.
He said the construction industry was a major contributor to national development, accounting for nine per cent of GDP in the last three years.
“As a key contributor to economic development and advancement of the betterment of human life, the construction industry must, therefore, operate efficiently and effectively in order for the sector to realise its overall mandate,” he said.
