Lufthansa German Airlines has recognised its travel agents for their support for the airline for 2013.
This was at its annual agents event where the top 10 agents that contributed greatly to the airline ticket sales in the country were rewarded.
This year’s awards added new categories to include best agent outside Accra, new agents, best growth in economy, best growth in business and best growth in first class.
The Lufthansa General Manager for Ghana, Mr Kevin Markette, said the awards ceremony was not entirely focused on the amount of money the agents made but on the support they gave the airline.
Meanwhile, the airline has upgraded its service on the Accra-Frankfurt route with the introduction of a bigger aircraft, Airbus A330-300.
The new wide body aircraft offers a three-class configuration with eight seats in First Class, 48 in Business Class and 191 in Economy Class.
The Airbus comes with increased capacity and space and brings the renowned Five Star First Class service to Ghana, replacing the two-class Boeing Business Jet.
Mr Markette said the feat meant that the airline could carry twice the number of passengers it used to carry on the route, while offering passengers from Ghana more and convenient connections to 235 destinations in 78 countries.
“With a capacity increase of more than 100 per cent, Lufthansa shows a strong commitment to Ghana which is one of the most promising markets in Africa and part of the Lufthansa network for nearly 50 years,” he said at a press conference in Accra on Monday.
