The Israeli Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Yair Shamir, has paid a visit to the Dizengoff Ghana Limited’s Amiran Farmers Kit (AFK-Ghana) in Accra.
The visit was to familiarise himself with activities of Israeli companies in the country, especially in the area of agriculture.
The minister, who was in the country with a business delegation to identify business opportunities in the agricultural sector, was accompanied by the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Sharon Bar-h.
Briefing the GRAPHIC BUSINESS about the visit, the Public Diplomacy Co-ordinator, Embassy of the State of Israel, Ms Mina Okuru, said the visit was to help the minister appreciate the contribution of Israeli companies to the agricultural sector in Ghana and also to inform him about how Israeli companies were thriving in the country.
She indicated that it was part of activities put together by the Embassy for the minister who was in the country to participate in the Israel-Ghana Agricultural Opportunity seminar, jointly organised by the Embassy of Israel, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and the Israeli Institute for Export.
Ms Okuru was of the view that the visit would help Mr Shamir present a better prospect of the agricultural sector in Ghana.
Taking the minister through the activities of the AFK, the Country Integrated Project Manager, Mr Samuel Abbey, said the demand was high for the crops produced under the AFK since they are of high quality and have a long shelf life.
Amiran Farmers Kit
The Amiran Farmers Kit (AFK-Ghana) is a greenhouse made up of a complete set of tools for sustainable farming.
In countries where food security had been a problem, it had been proven to be the pro-active means to improving livelihood.
The technology allows two to three cropping cycles per year depending on the type of crop.
The AFK-Ghana helps to eliminate soil-borne diseases, insects, weed and water wastage
Yields are extremely high compared to the traditional method of farming.
