India hosts annual IPHEX 2020
The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) will from 6th to 8th May this year, host the annual IPHEX 2020, to offer industrial players in the pharmaceutical sector across the world the much sought after opportunity to meet new and existing India producers.
IPHEX 2020 is an annual exhibition that brings together Indian drugs, pharmaceutical and health care industry all under one roof to showcase new technology to global audiences.

They also display Pharma machines, Pharma plant set up, Pharma technology, finished products and formulations among others.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic ahead of the exhibition which will take place at Great Noida near New Delhi, Mr Ravi Uday Bhaskar, Director General of Pharmexcil said about 700 overseas participants including Ghanaians will be invited to participate in the exhibition and also network with the Indian producers.
He said India is referred to globally as the pharmacy of the world because of the great strides the country has made in the pharmaceutical industry.
According to him, India’s pharma industry exported over US$19.15 billion out of which more than 50 per cent were exported to highly regulated markets across the world.
Relation between Pharmexil and Ghana
In 2013, the Pharmexcil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) for collaboration on matters relating to the promotion of trade in pharmaceuticals.
Under the agreement which was signed in Mumbai, both parties were to share a common commitment to develop bilateral trade and commerce, promote investments including economic progress, mutual business interests and prosperity in a peaceful, stable and secure global environment.
Mr Dhananjay Tripathi, the Convener of Phamexil in-charge of Ghana and the Chief Executive Officer of Pharmanova, said Ghana has become quite self-reliant in the pharmaceuticals largely due to the technological and human resource assistance received from India.
He said the pharma sector in Ghana imports about 90 per cent of its equipment with spare parts from India as well as 70 per cent of its raw materials because they are robust, with very good pricing.
He said most factories established in Ghana are linked to technical assistance received from India, adding that out of the 37 pharmaceutical companies in Ghana currently, only 10 are very active and took 80 per cent of the market share, while seven pharmaceutical manufacturing and trading companies were established either through Indian assistance or were of Indian origin.
Background of IPHEX
The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India was set up by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India for promoting the export of drugs, pharmaceuticals, homeopathy, Ayurvedic and herbal medicines, allied products and related services in the global arena.
The organisation is mandated to help its members achieve excellence in exports and help overseas buyers to find suitable trade partners from the Indian pharmaceutical industry.
