GRA boss honoured at CEO’s Summit

The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, has been adjudged the Outstanding Public Leadership at the fifth Ghana CEO’s Summit held recently.

The award was presented to the Commissioner-General by the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

A press statement from the GRA said the award was in recognition of the initiatives introduced at the GRA under the leadership of Rev. Owusu-Amoah.

It said the initiatives had resulted in the achievement of significant milestones, including the revenue targets for two consecutive years.

Technology-driven

Speaking as a panellist on behalf of the Commissioner-General, Mr Dominic Naab, an Assistant Commissioner, noted that the world was running very fast in terms of technology, and to remain relevant and effective, countries would have no choice but to be abreast of the times.

He added that GRA was focused on the use of digital tools to aid compliance with the expected result of increasing revenue mobilisation for the development of Ghana.

He mentioned some innovations introduced by the authority as to include the introduction of the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) and filling of returns electronically via the Ghana.gov platform.

He said the Ghana.gov platform could be accessed online via the GRA website- www.gra.gov.gh,

He said other technology-based initiatives of the authority included the cashless system, taxing the high-net-worth individuals, which commenced in earnest in 2020 and the restructuring of Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD) into Area Offices and Taxpayer Service Centres

He said the GRA had also commenced the use of Ghana Card Personal Identification Number as the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) for individuals as well as introduced new excise tax stamps.

He said it had also started a rigorous effort to tax players in the e-commerce industry embarked on intensive debt collection drive and the prosecution of tax defaulters as well as increased tax education.
