GIJ leads global conversation on Twitter and the African Future
The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) will on Friday, April 30 host a panel discussion on what the world micro-blogging platform, Twitter’s recent announcement of Ghana as its operational headquarters in Africa holds for the country and continent.
The virtual discussion being organised by the Institute’s Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID) via zoom, will be on the topic; “Twitter and the African Future: Rethinking Digital opportunities and challenges” and will also seek to probe implications thereof for prospects, democracy and development.

“Four speakers will be empaneled from diverse technological backgrounds and African Studies to speak on the subject”, a statement by the Institute announcing the panel discussion said.
The panelists are;
- Dr. Ezer Osei Yeboah-Boateng, Dean Faculty of Computing & Information Systems (FoCIS) at the Ghana Communication Technology University;
- Foster Akugri, Founder & President of the Hacklab Foundation (Focal Twitter Partner in Ghana);
- Maximus Ametorgoh, Digital Marketing Professional & Tech Analyst, and;
- Dr. Emmanuel Asonye Africana Studies, University of New Mexico, USA.
According to the Institute’s statement, there is critical need to move the discussion beyond the euphoria that greeted the announcement in Ghana, on the continent and globally too, and is therefore inviting the general public to participate in this important forum on zoom via;

“It is on the back of this, that the state premier communications university – GIJ, is organising this discussion to move the talk to ponder what this big announcement holds for Ghana and the continent”, the statement said.
