Tertiary Business Sense Challenge: KNUST, UCC qualify for finals
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have finally booked their slots for the grand finale of the Graphic Business Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC).
This was after the UCC visited what has been described as an academic mayhem on its Winneba counterpart, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), to progress to the grand finale of the keenly contested competition.

This will be the third meeting between the school giants in the contest, the first in the final while the earlier two was at the semi final stages in the two previous contests.
Exhibiting a strong determination to annex the crown this year from the start of the day’s contest, UCC eventually opened a 20-point margin over their opponent in the first semi-final contest.
KNUST also booked its slot after demonstrating its supremacy over Central University in a 67-28 score.
The grand finale promises to be a more heated intellectual thriller as the participating schools have vowed to use the opportunity to settle old scores by either entrenching their dominance or avenging a defeat in last year’s semi-final contest in which the UCC knocked out KNUST by a 10.5 margin.
Before the final contest, patrons will have the opportunity to see UEW lock horns with the Central University for the third-place slot which is expected to be a thrilling curtain raiser.
Semi-final atmosphere
By 9:00 a.m. students from the four universities in the semi-finals had trooped into the Executive Theatre of TV3, Kanda in Accra for the commencement of the competition, with most of them looking very excited.
Even though some of them appeared tense, they kept cheering until the contests were over.

Interactions
Interacting with the Daily Graphic after the competition, the Coach of UCC, Mr Edward Amarteyfio, said he was not surprised with the performance both schools exhibited.
“It was tough and keen indeed because it was the semi-finals but in the end, we beat them. We came prepared. This competition is one of our toughest of all but we managed to use our tactics and strategy to show our supremacy over our opponent,” he said.
A Contestant from UCC, Ms Beatrice Kwakye Appiah, added that the seat was indeed hot, but the team managed to do its best to sail through to the final.
A Representative from KNUST, Mr Wesley Ekuban, said the team was psyched to win the ultimate this year and that was what it plans to do.
“We were expecting to score more points than we did but all is not lost; we are going to prepare well to defeat UCC this time," he said.
The Quiz Master
The Quiz Master, Mr Alhassan Yusif Trawule, said the competition had indeed been a keen one, and this version had been a very tough one.
He said all the four schools which qualified to the semi finals were good and had prepared well, and had met the standard of questions he gave them.
As a neutral arbiter in the contest, he refused to predict the winner for the finals, but noted that he was expecting a more competitive and tougher contest.
The impact
The TBSC is a quiz contest for tertiary schools initiated by the Graphic Business to help stimulate intellectual competition among students in the various tertiary schools nationwide.
As the country’s foremost economic and financial newspaper, it is optimistic that beyond providing contestants with the opportunity to display their intellectual prowess, which could earn their schools bragging rights, the challenge would serve as a fertile ground for nurturing students’ interest in business issues and entrepreneurship in general.
