Flour Mills prioritises customer satisfaction

What is a more fundamental, essential mission than feeding the world? Flour Mills of Ghana Limited (FMGL) began contributing to this goal by producing wheat flour, animal feed, soya, bread, SBM and more in 2012 when it became an affiliate of the multi-billion-dollar agribusiness that has provided nourishment for people around the globe since 1918: Seaboard, USA.

Seaboard Corporation that is this year commemorating its 100 years tackled its first venture in Africa by building a flour mill in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Since then, Seaboard has spread over 16 African countries, including Nigeria, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia, just to mention a few, making it the largest flour milling company in Africa to date.

Today, Flour Mills of Ghana Limited produces 200 MT (metric tons) of wheat and 250 MT of animal feed per day.

The company is the largest supplier of noodles, pasta and biscuits to local industries, as well as the supplier of feed to the largest poultry farms.

At the same time, under the guidance of Seaboard, FMGL works as a trading company, trading commodities such as soybean mill and animal feed inputs with various local farmers and distributors.

A member of Amcham for a number of years, FMGL understands the highly competitive and generally free Ghanaian economy which is fast growing and changing.

New challenges appear almost daily and require adequate answers, technically and economically.

In these instances, Flour Mills of Ghana is able to share its experience and expertise with its conglomerate of bakers and clients.

The company constantly prioritises customer satisfaction and agri-education by organising seminars for bakers and poultry farmers all around Ghana.

The popular flour brand "Sankofa" is from the Flour Mills of Ghana household and is a stellar example of what occurs when local baking practices meet the most advanced technology and machinery available. Located in Tema, the production facility is well equipped with a modern cereal laboratory.

With regard to job creation and growth in the employment market, Flour Mills of Ghana has become a pillar in the lives of Ghanaian families by securing reliable, worthwhile jobs for its 230 permanent employees.

The current leaders are a diverse, dedicated team working around the clock to ensure that the company remains a pillar for the Ghanaian market: Shaul Hamtzani, General Manager; Abdallah Khaldoune, Operations Manager; Sandra Tagoe, Marketing and Commercial Manager, and Tidiane Souare, Financial Manager.

FMGL happily supports the Ghana Government’s agricultural campaign - Planting For Food and Jobs - by purchasing local corn, as well as supporting the newly launched Rearing for Food and Jobs programme launched in Wa, Upper West Region in June 2019.

Overall, Flour Mills of Ghana is proud to be heralded as "one of the best flour mills in Ghana with great engineering staff".

It is equally proud to be an affiliate of Seaboard Overseas which has recently celebrated its seventh year of ranking within the most prestigious Fortune 500, a yearly list of 500 of the largest US companies ranked by total revenues for their respective fiscal years.

The Seaboard-FMGL relationship is a remarkable example of bridging the cultural gap between Ghana and the United States.
