80 Women in agribusiness receive training

A total of 80 cohorts from 16 African countries have graduated from the Ignite African Women in Agribusiness programme, a flagship programme of Guzakuza, an agricultural organisation that supports women in agribusiness.

The programme is being partnered by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Ghana.

Out of the 1440 women who applied for the training programme this year, 80 of them from 16 countries across Africa were also enrolled to undergo the six months training.

Speaking at the 4th graduation and 5th enrollment ceremony in Accra last Thursday, the Team Lead for the Ignite African Women in Agribusiness programme, Ms Fortune Kyei, said Ignite is an
Agribusiness programme designed to spark creation of jobs and wealth in young women through Agripreneurship.

“We realised that most women who already have the agribusiness mindset are unable to strategise their businesses so we step in to give them the training and help them to scale up their businesses to also make an impact in the world by creating jobs.

“Ignite nurtures and turns ground-breaking ideas into profitable and sustainable Agribusinesses,” she stated.

She encouraged the employed youth in the country to take advantage of the opportunities in the agriculture sector to get the right training and platform generate some income for themselves.

Training programme

Ms Kyei said over a period of six months, women who had started their agribusiness are inspired, educated, nurtured and empowered through mentorship, coaching, internships field trips, business simulation and relevant trainings both online and residential to build resilient agribusinesses and improve their self-development.

The Head of programme for Agribiz at GIZ, Dr Elke Stumpf, said her outfit shares the vision of empowering women who were already in agribusiness with objectives top thrive to be successful.
