2019 Ghana International Trade Fair launched

A Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Carlos Ahenkorah, has asked local manufacturers across the country to pay attention to the packaging of their products to ensure their visibility on the market.

"Pay a little more attention to packaging and modeling for the sale of made in Ghana goods. This is because the massive industrialisation drive by the government means that there must be a way to dispose of the products, therefore, packaging must be done well,” he urged.

He added that the government, for its part, would engage manufacturers in workshops to train them on the need to do proper packaging.

Trade Fair 2019

Mr Ahenkorah gave the advice when he launched the 2019 Ghana International Trade Fair in Accra last Wednesday. The 23rd Ghana International Trade Fair is scheduled to come off from February 28 to March 11, 2019.

The fair will be organised by the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited (GTCL) with support from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

More than 600 local and foreign exhibitors are expected to participate in it.

Conferences and entertainment programmes will also be organised alongside the event to promote networking and partnerships.

The event is on the theme: “Made in Ghana, Globally accepted.”

Mr Ahenkorah explained that the fair was being held in line with the government’s strategic plan to promote domestic trade, adding that it was one of the major drivers for industrialisation.

He said the fair was also to reduce the country’s dependency on foreign products and imports, while increasing the export of local products.

Retail infrastructure

The minister also asked manufacturers to improve upon their retail infrastructure to make their products more appealing on both the local and international markets.

“One way to push up the interest of domestic trade is to improve upon our retailing infrastructure to influence people to buy the products we showcase,” he stressed.

Networking

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana International Trade Fair Limited, Dr Agnes Adu, after highlighting the activities of the fair, said her outfit was focused on connecting small to medium sized companies to foreign investors.

"There would be conferences and incubator platforms that would connect small businesses to seasoned CEOs who would help the companies to properly plan and market their products and services to the global market,” she said.

She said the fair presented a unique opportunity for business owners to showcase Ghana’s domestic products and services.
