What Ghana needs now is not the traditional buying and selling but real investment that will give real returns to investors and prop up the economy, President John Dramani Mahama has said.
Interacting with members of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce in the USA last Saturday, he said a number of opportunities existed for investors in Ghana.
The President was in Worcester, Massachusetts, to, among other things, seek investment for Ghana, after attending the 69th UN General Assembly in New York.
Peace and security
President Mahama touted Ghana's image as the most stable country in West African, saying that that provided a good opportunity for businesses to thrive.
Apart from peace and security, Ghana is also free from deadly diseases.
He mentioned the hospitality, agriculture, transport, oil and gas, as some of the potential areas for investment.
"No investor would ever regret putting his money in Ghana," President Mahama said.
The interaction with the President was a good opportunity for members of the Chamber as they said it gave them even better insight into the developments in the country.
"Ghana is leveraging investment in agriculture," he said, adding that emphasis had been placed on production of crops such as pineapple and mangoes.
He mentioned how in the past, coup d'etats and conflicts had slowed investments in Africa and added, there had been significant improvement in the system today.
Chamber president
The President of the Chamber, Mr Timothy Murray, said Ghana was one of the seven African countries they had targeted to invest in because of the enabling environment created by the government and people for investment
He said Ghana's example of progress was positive for other Africa countries to emulate.
He thanked President Mahama for the visit.
