Full operationalisation of AfCFTA key to Africa -Yofi Grant

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Yofi Grant has said that the disruption in the global supply chain as a result of the Russia/Ukraine conflict presents a huge opportunity for Africa.

He said this opportunity could however not be harnessed if the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement is not fully operationalised.

Mr Grant was speaking at the 1st Annual Assembly of Africa Investment Promotion Agencies.

Three years after the AfCFTA was launched, no meaningful trade has yet happened under the agreement due to the inability of some countries to submit their tariff schedules.

When fully operationalised, AfCFTA is expected to create a market of about 1.4 billion people with a combined GDP of almost $4 trillion.
