First intake completes second boot camp

Nine Ghanaian agribusinesses selected to participate in the inaugural Kosmos Innovation Centre Business Booster programme have completed a six-month training designed to help them grow their businesses.

The training programme, which culminated in the second and final five-day boot camp, focused on preparing the nine businesses to meet with potential investors, whose intentions are to generate a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return.

The Director of Corporate Affairs of Kosmos Energy, Mr George Sarpong, who also leads the Kosmos Innovation Centre (KIC), said the energy company’s future was fully connected to the country’s success and that the company would make meaningful interventions to ensure sustainable economic growth and development.

“We want to help Ghana create a healthy, diverse and thriving economy. The Kosmos Innovation Centre is our way of investing in the country’s future beyond our core operations,” he stated.

The focus, Mr Sarpong said, was to support and see the agribusinesses expand and create more jobs for society after the programme.

The list

While the KIC AgriTech programme helps young graduates to use ICT to solve some of the challenges in the agricultural value chain, the KIC Business Booster helps existing small and medium-enterprises (SMEs) in the agricultural value chain to modernise their operations, improve governance and eventually win some grants to enable them to implement some of the lessons for expansion.

The nine agribusinesses, which participated in the six-month programme, include Meclink, producers of high-quality vegetables for the domestic market; Moringa Connect, a fruit processing company, and Moringa King processes moringa leaves into nutritious beverages.

The rest are Meannan Foods, which processes and packages hygienic Ghanaian foods for the local market; Solution Oasis, manufacturers of premium natural skincare products; Tilly Farms producers of pork and pork products; Seidag is into the supply of beef products; GEES Fresh Point, a guinea fowl processing company, while Contrapack extracts, refines and produces tertiary value-added products such foods, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products from natural, virgin tropical vegetable oils and fats.
