The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has announced that all unrenewed business names on its Register will be cancelled if they are not renewed on or before January 17, 2027.
In a press release issued on November 4, the ORC reminded the general public and all business owners that registered business names are required to be renewed annually upon the expiry of their registration.
The Registrar said it has observed that a number of business names on the Register have not been renewed as required by law.
"Notice is hereby given that all business names which are not renewed on or before 17 January 2027 shall be deemed lapsed and shall accordingly be removed from the Register maintained by the Office," the statement read.
Upon removal, such business names shall cease to exist, and any person continuing to trade under a cancelled business name shall do so in breach of the law and be liable to the applicable sanctions.
Business owners whose renewals are due or expired have been advised to renew their business names at any ORC office or via the USSD *222#, pay all outstanding renewal fees, and update any changes in particulars, such as address or nature of business.
The ORC noted that business owners who no longer intend to carry on business under a registered name may notify the Registrar in writing for the name to be removed from the Register.
It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring compliance with Ghana's corporate regulatory framework and promoting high standards of corporate governance and business transparency.
