Fidelity Bank Ghana has showcased its Smart Account and Agency Banking services at the 2014 Edition of the Africa CEO conference on Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (AR-CSR).
The event, which was organised by Thistle Praxis Consulting Limited, took place in Calabar in the Cross River State of Nigeria.
The Director for Financial Inclusion at Fidelity Bank Ghana, Dr William Derban, presented a paper on the topic: “Financial Inclusion and Economic Development: Evolutions, Innovations and Challenges, and Financial Literacy and Inclusion in rural Africa: Access or Usage.”
He said financial literacy had limited impact if people were not provided with appropriate products and services. He demonstrated how Fidelity Bank was transforming lives by using their innovative Smart Accounts for over a 100,000 customers.
“Fidelity Bank is building financial capability through its innovative Smart Account and Agency Banking and is already revolutionising banking in Ghana. It is an honour to bring our work to an Africa-wide audience and demonstrate how Fidelity Bank, Ghana, is one of the banks leading the way in full inclusion in Africa,” said Dr Derban.
Fidelity Bank was the first to practise agency banking in Ghana last year and has opened over 200 Fidelity Smart Agencies, where many people can deposit and withdraw cash in addition to a range of financial transactions at selected retail shops.
The event was attended by representatives of the government, the private sector, donors, NGOs and academia.
