Fair Trade to employ 300 workers in Ghana

Fair Trade Outsourcing (FTO), an international outsourcing company has entered the Ghanaian job market and targets to employ over 300 Ghanaians by next year.

FTO is a US-based company owned by Mike Dershowitz, an American social impact entrepreneur focused on alleviating global poverty and growing the middle class in developing countries. FTO currently employs over 1,200 people worldwide, with operating companies in the Philippines, Mexico, Ghana, and soon in Colombia.

FTO says it is seeking to employ and train Ghanaians with the requisite skills to best serve FTO’s clients.

In an exclusive interview with Graphic Online in Accra, Ben Kogus, Vice President of Global Operations noted that FTO believes in the Ghanaian labour force.

“We are here to create job opportunities in the areas where it is not always the easiest to have job opportunities,” he told the Graphic Online.

First badge of employees
The West Africa coordinator of Fair Trade Outsourcing, Ebi Alfred Yankson told the Graphic Online that the company is currently working with 25 Ghanaian employees and plan to employ more Ghanaians within the year.

“We are weighing our options and watching how these 25 will work with us efficiently, we intend to employ more based on the output of these 25”, he said.

Mr Yankson, an Ivorian-Ghanaian, noted that Fair Trade provides its employees with the best opportunity and working environment.

“Unlike other outsourcing agencies, Fair Trade Outsourcing maintains its staff with the aim of improving their economic welfare and typically compensates at a higher rate than other outsourcing agencies in a given market”, he stated.

“We have clients worldwide, and our job is to provide excellent client services”, he stated.

He added that strict adherence to rules and proceedings are demanded of workers and staff are screened for their trustworthiness and sincerity.

Reviewers
Mr. Yankson told this medium that FTO workers in Ghana are referred to as reviewers who mostly review recorded exams takers.

“Our current workforce reviews previously-recorded online exams or aptitude tests organized by various educational and professional institutions, and helps prevent cheating and ensures the credibility of the exam”, he explained.
