Equities market records GH¢1.159bn trades: Pension fund’s contribution sees huge jump

Foreign investors contribution to trades on the equity market is beginning to see a drop, with available data from January 2023 to September showing that their contribution has dropped to 54 per cent, from the 64 per cent recorded in the same period last year.

Out of the GHc1.159 billion trades recorded on the market in the first nine months of the year, foreign investors contributed GH¢621.97 million, while local investors contributed GH¢537.56 million.

In a remarkable turn of events, the market is also seeing an active participation of pension funds on the equities market, as contributions increased from six per cent in October last year to 17 per cent in October this year. 

Benso Oil Palm Plantation made the highest gain of GH¢12.28 within the period, followed by  Total Energies Marketing Ghana PLC with GH¢4.99.

Unilever Ghana Limited, Guinness Ghana Brewery Limited and Scancom Plc completed the list of top five gainers with GH¢4.22, GH¢1.35, and GH¢0.49 respectively.
