The Dow Chemical Company and the Habitat for Humanity are to construct 20 houses for some families in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The initiative is as a result of a partnership between the two institutions aimed at creating safe and affordable housing for low-income earners.
A statement from the Dow Chemical Company and the Habitat for Humanity said the housing units would serve families that express the need in improving their current housing and hygienic situation through renovations, refurbishment and construction of new homes.
“This project is highly strategic for us because it is consistent with the two critical pillars of Dow’s 2015 Sustainability Goals – contributing to community successes and addressing the world’s most pressing challenges,” the Managing Director of Dow West Africa, Mr Tont Groosman, said.
He added that the company aspired to make valuable contributions to the communities in which it operated, hence the decision to collaborate with institutions such as Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit organisation that seeks to help provide homes for the needy. It was founded in 1976 and has since supported over 60,000 families worldwide to access better housing conditions.
Dow Chemical is, thus, partnering with the NGO to help support the families in the country by improving upon the conditions of the houses they reside in.
The National Director of Habitat for Humanity Ghana, Mr James Anewenah, said his outfit welcomed the decision by Dow to partner it to improve the lives of the families.
“As a result of the collaboration with Dow in Ghana, about 125 people will benefit from a new secure housing and improved health and sanitation situation. The partnership will also support the local economy by providing jobs for artisans working on the construction of houses, as well as retailers selling building supplies,” Mr Anewenah said.
