Barcelos opens new branch at Abelemkpe

The immediate past President of the Association of Ghanaian Industries (AGI), Nana Owusu-Afari, has called on restaurant and fast food operators to consider the rural areas when establishing fast food joints in the country.

He said a large number of Ghanaians resided in the rural areas and, therefore, urged the restaurant operators to look beyond the urban centres.

Nana Owusu-Afari gave this advice at the official opening of Barcelos Abelemkpe on May 31 in Accra.

He pointed out that the fast food industry was becoming a major industry in the world, hence the need to extend their services to the rural areas too.

“The fast food industry has come to stay and I’m happy Ghana has had its fair share”, he said.

Barcelos Abelemkpe

Barcelos Abelemkpe is the latest shop of Barcelos Flame Grilled Chicken which has a playground installed to make the place a family gathering joint.

The Managing Director for Barcelos Flame Grilled Chicken, Mrs Celine Owusu-Afari, at the official opening said Barcelos was a leading international brand with well-established outlets in 16 countries.

She said Barcelos specialised in serving chicken meals, family meals, burgers, kebabs, shawarma, hot crispy fries; garlic rolls stir-fries, salads and kids meals.

Mrs Owusu-Afari said the company intended to open three more outlets in the country before the year ends and called on all the staff and the board to support the company’s operations.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of Barcelos, Mr Costa Mazzis, also thanked the staff and board for bringing Barcelos to  its present state.

He said Barcelos started with just one shop in Johannesburg in 1994 and that the growth of the brand had been phenomenal.

“Our aim is to open between 20-30 shops around the World yearly and we plan to capture 34 countries within the next couple of years”, he said.
