AWA waives penalty for rescheduled flights

A Ghanaian private airline operator, Africa World Airlines (AWA) has waived all penalty fees on the change of flight schedules for both domestic and international travels.

As a move to help reduce the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on its customers, the airline operator said the penalty waiver would be in place between March and May this year.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of AWA, Mr Sean Mendis, who disclosed this to Daily Graphic last Friday, observed that the penalty waiver was designed as part of the airline’s level two containment protocols to ensure passengers and crew were able to fly safely.

Travel restrictions

Mr Mendis also said the waiver was also necessary given that passengers were being compelled to reschedule their flights with many countries now placing restrictions on international travels in a bid to either prevent or curb the spread of the disease in their countries.

Ghana is the latest country to place a complete ban on all international travels, as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that all entries into Ghana by road, air and sea be closed but opened to only cargo and goods delivery.

Penalty

AWA’s penalty for changing a flight schedule range from GHȼ50 for domestic and $25 for international flights.
