African Independent Feeder Ghana Limited (AI Feeder), a Ghanaian coastal shipping company that moves containerised, out-of-gauge and break-bulk cargo along the West African coast, is aiming to serve as a key link for international container shipping lines.
This it intends to do by providing efficient and cost-effective coverage of ports and regions beyond their existing network in West Africa.
AI Feeder was founded in 2013 as a regional feeder service in West Africa. It is a related company of African Independent Coastal Services (AICS), a Ghanaian coastal shipping company that owns and operates tonnage in Ghana.
The company’s flagship vessel, M/V ADOBIA, was named at the Tema Port on March 1, 2013.
This multi-purpose cargo vessel is duly registered and flagged in Ghana in compliance with the Ghana Shipping Act, 2003 (Act 645).
The company said: “we pride ourselves on being Ghana’s only indigenous coastal shipping service and it is our aim to move seaborne cargo cheaper, faster and safer between West Africa.”
“We feed multinational lines by carrying containerised cargo regularly to and from West Africa’s hub and minor ports. We have the capacity to enhance the efficiency of global lines by consolidating and distributing containers on less cost-effective routes in West Africa,” it said.
“Since April 2013, MV ADOBIA has undertaken voyages between the ports of Takoradi and Tema, and occasionally Abidjan, offering a feeder service. We make a minimum of 6 port calls a month on the Tema-Takoradi route and have the flexibility to increase this even further.”
Ports to be added to the company’s feeder network in the near future are Calabar in Nigeria, and San Pedro, Ivory Coast.
“Al Feeder also carries other available break-bulk cargo on demand/charter, and our midsized multipurpose vessels allow us to provide a flexible response to the needs of the West and Central African shipping market.”
