AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) mining firm has rolled out a programme to help graduates gain work experience and technical skills across various disciplines in the mining industry to enhance their "employability."

Ten of such graduates have successfully passed out from the company's Graduate Trainee Programme at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

Programme

The programme, launched in 2019 was a developmental initiative for brilliant and promising young graduates from Ghana's tertiary institutions.

It is aimed among other things at bridging the gap between school and work and also to develop technical skills of graduates.

MD

The Managing Director of AGA, Dr Eric Asubonteng, said the programme places high value on teaching and developing good work ethics by instilling in the participants, discipline, and a culture of accountability which were critical traits in the industry.

He said good work ethics were essential requirements without which one could not be successful.

Dr Asubonteng challenged the graduates to exhibit the highest professionalism, integrity and a good attitude in their duties in order to succeed.

He advised the graduates to embrace the opportunity to build new skills and develop themselves for the job market.

HR

The Senior Human Resources manager of AGA, Madam Wosiela Eve Bobie said the company over the years, has been establishing and maintaining a talent pool of graduates, creating value and improving the practical knowledge and skills of the selected graduates.

She said the programme was purposefully designed to maximise the development of the beneficiaries, boost their confidence and support them to excel at work and within their communities.

Graduates

Each graduate trainee undertook a research and cost-saving project in preparation for a final cost-saving and business improvement project presentation.

The overall best graduate trainee, Ms Lois Asieduwaa, applauded AGA for providing a unique platform and exposure that will help them to fit into the job market.
