ABL/UT Bank ‘Launchpad Competition 2014’ launched

The Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) and UT Bank yesterday launched a business competition which would identify the top small and medium scale (SME) entrepreneurs in the country and provide them with the opportunity to gain invaluable expert training and advice to help take their businesses to the next level.
The competition will be in the form of business workshops and will equip participants with the essential knowledge and aptitude to understand and structure the start-up or expansion of their businesses.

Key training areas would include financial management, business strategy, marketing, human resource and legal aspects of businesses, negotiation and presentation skills, among others.

Dubbed “Launchpad Competition 2014”, which will start on January 6 to January 17, 2014, will provide participants with hands-on experience and coaching from high level business professionals in the country.

ABL and UT Bank will give their continuous support to the competition, which is a demonstration of their commitment towards contributing to the growth of Ghana’s economy through the provision of such important platform.

The competition would accept entries from different sectors, including agric-production, agric-business and processing; business and professional service and others like business process outsourcing (BPO); tourism and eco-tourism; transport and logistics; manufacturing and construction; media and marketing; green and ecological business; sports; leisure and recreation; and information technology (IT).

The UT Bank said in a speech read on its behalf by Rami Bahti, an officer of the bank, that the bank was happy two of the top three winners from last year’s competition were women.

The Country Director of Enablis Entrepreneurial Network Ghana, Ms Shika Acolatse, said ABL and UT Bank believed that helping small businesses to build a solid economic base would help in the development of Ghana.

She expressed appreciation for the efforts exhibited by the title sponsors, ABL and UT Bank, saying that the competition would look for business plans across different industry sectors, culminating in the selection of winning plans in March 2014. Other sponsors for the programme include Citi FM, Business and Financial Times and Voltic Mineral Water.

In addition to various prizes from competition partners,  she said winners would receive expert business coaching provided by Enablis, which is expected to alleviate the high failure rate that was typical among newly established small businesses.

Ms Acolatse said registration for the programme would end on December 11, 2013.
