The committee, which comprised representatives of the 28 universal banks in the country, was offered the opportunity to make inputs as part of efforts by the organisers of the prestigious awards ceremony to make the programme more transparent.

The Ghana Banking Awards is based on both qualitative and quantitative information on a survey of the views and opinions of customers of participating banks and other data gathered from the participating banks.

According to the Chief Host and Chairman of the Awards Planning Board, Nana Otuo Acheampong, the approach and methodology for assessing banks for the various categories had been reviewed over the years to make it more robust to reflect the changing dynamics of the financial services sector.

“As part of efforts to maintain the integrity of the whole process, the approach and methodology to be used for the awards in any particular year must first be approved by a technical committee whose membership cuts across the entire universal banking spectrum,” he explained.

In all, the 2014 Ghana Banking Awards will assess banks in 14 categories with two other awards; most active e-Zwich bank and most cashless bank, to be introduced by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GHIPPS).

The quantitative data will be gathered from the published financial statements of the banks while the qualitative data will be based on information that will be gathered from the banks. — GB
