A former president of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), George Haldane Lutterodt, has reiterated the need to pay more attention to other sporting disciplines aside from football.

He said Ghana had become a mono-sport country and, therefore, the level of support given to football should not be at the detriment of 40 other sporting disciplines in the country.

Mr Lutterodt,  who was addressing  executive members, coaches and some practitioners of the Ghana Fencing Association (GFA) during a visit by members of the association to his office, urged the government to diversify to help lift the deserted sporting disciplines from the doldrums.

The visit of the executive of the GFA which included its President Mohammed Mahadi, his vice, Muftawu Rashid, and General Secretary, Hassanatu Zakariah, was to formally introduce themselves as new executive members of the federation.

Mr Mahadi gave the hint that the sports was partnering  its Italian counterpart and an Italian sports university to broaden the horizon of practitioners in the country.

Mr Lutterodt pledged his continued support to the sport and tasked them and other sporting associations to continue to explore the expertise of former sports administrators and connoisseurs of the discipline.

He later presented an undisclosed amount of money to the new executives.
