Maidens leave for Jordan for the U-17 Women’s World Cup

Ghana's Female Under-17 team, the Black Maidens left Accra yesterday for Jordan ahead of the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup which will begin on Friday, September 30.

A contingent of 21 players, technical team and management committee members made the trip and will spend the next week rounding up their preparation in Jordan. 

The national U-17 female team qualified to their fifth straight World Cup appearance after a 10-0 aggregate win over Morocco in the final qualifying match and hope to replicate their success in the previous competitions at the Jordan tournament.

The  Maidens, quarter-finalists at the last edition of the competition in Costa Rica, are the only African side to have reached the semi-finals of the World Cup after winning bronze in 2013 in Azerbaijan.

The Maidens team:

Goalkeepers: Martha Annan (Bafana Ladies), Kayza Massey (Ottawa South United, Canada), Selina Abalana (Soccer Intellectuals)

Defenders: Linda Amoako (Soccer Int), Joyce Asamoah (Fabulous), Mawia Uweiza (Ampem Darkoa), Cecilia Hagan (Bafana), Blessing Agbomadzi (Kumasi Sports Academy), Philicity Asuoko (Samaria)

Midfielders: Fuseina Mumuni (Lepo Ladies), Mary Entoah (Police Ladies), Nina Norshi (Valued Girls), Grace Asantewaa (Ampem Darkoa), Olivia Anokye (Bafana Ladies), Grace Acheampong (Ashtown Ladies)

Attackers: Adiza Kubrah Mustapha (Soccer Int), Rafiatu Alhassan (Hasaacas Ladies), Sandra Owusu-Ansah (Supreme Ladies), Sylvain Amankwah (Prisons Ladies) and Vivian Konadu Adjei (Kumasi Sports Academy).
