Kotoko versus Wa All Stars

Kotoko to tame Wa All Stars

After a week’s break to make way for the surprise-filled MTN FA Cup, the various league centres will be full of action this weekend as Asante Kotoko return to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi so fight for maximum points against champions Wa All Stars.

Out of the nine league matches Kotoko have so played at their favourite home ground which used to be a Waterloo for many visiting teams, they have won only four and drawn five, including the recent match against Accra Great Olympics.

Incidentally, Wa All Stars have also not been good away performers this season.

All Stars, who took the Premier League by storm last season, have lost four out of their nine away matches, won only two and drawn thrice, indicating that Kotoko, who beat Wassaman 1-0 in their MTN FA Cup Round of 16 encounter last Sunday could use their opponents as a spring board to fight for the top spot which has 36 more points on offer.

Considering the fact that Wa All Stars caged Berekum Chelsea with an emphatic 3-0 victory in their last league match at Wa and followed it up with a 2-1 victory over Samartex in their MTN FA Cup tie last Sunday, the duel against the Porcupine Warriors will be full of fireworks.

Tema fans will also witness a tough encounter between desperate Tema Youth and title-chasers, Aduana Stars, who shared the points with Kotoko at the Nana Agyemang Badu II park at Dormaa-Ahenkro in their 18th week fixture.

Tema Youth, who occupy the 14th spot, have vowed to escape the relegation net and hope to put up another good show as they demonstrated against Great Olympics in Accra a few weeks ago.

The Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi will see rejuvenated Ashantigold plotting the fall of visiting Inter Allies after walloping Ebusua Dwarfs 3-0 in the 17th week match and following it up with a 1-0 away victory over Medeama.

The match can go either way, but Coach C. K. Akonnor’s determination to save Ashgold from relegation could propel them to add Inter Allies to their victims.

In the other matches, Elmina Sharks, who have asked their coach, Kobina Amissah, to step aside, will not have it easy against visiting Hearts of Oak, while at the Accra Stadium, Great Olympics will have it tough against Liberty Professionals in their local derby.

The match between Berekum Chelsea and Ebusua Dwarfs at the Golden City Park in Berekum may favour the home team, and in Tamale, Bolga All Stars may share the points with league leaders, WAFA.

Medeama SC, who have been poor travellers this season, will find it very tough when they play as guests of Bechem United, though a draw cannot be ruled out.
