Bagerbaseh, after missing out on this year’s McDan Tennis Open last month, has set his sights on the ultimate but will face stiff opposition from age-long rival Wisdom Na-Adjrago.

Na-Adjrago, a gold medalist at the last All Africa Games, is the favourite to win the tournament.

In the other first round matches, Emmanuel Plange, beat Ahmed Quartey 6-0, 6-3 while Kwabena Ofosu Bamfo defeated Geovanni Adinyira 6-3, 6-3.

Daniel Anum Quartey also won 6-2, 6-2 against Yusif Ibrahim with Abdul Rahman Salifu losing 6-2, 6-3 to Eugene Hammond.

The six-day tournament, organised by John Evans Atta Mills Foundation (JEAMF), in collaboration with Invictus Africa Investment Partners in honour of the late President, will feature both professional and amateur players.

According to the organisers, the winners and runners-up of the professionals competition will take home a cash prize of GH¢4,500, GH¢2,500 and GH¢1,500 for the winner, runner-up and third place players respectively while top four players in the amateur category will win scholarships worth GH¢1,000 each.

The maiden edition of the competition is sponsored by Interplast Ghana, LG, Somotex, KFC, Electro Mart, Maso Quarry, Stallion Tiger and Zen.
