It’s do or die against Bejaia -- Promises Medeama coach

After defeating Congolese giants, Tout Puissant Mazembe, 3-2 at the Essipon Stadium last Sunday, the head coach of Medeama Sporting Club, Prince Owusu, says his side is ready to add Algerian side, MO Bejaia to their list of victims as they seek to record their third successive win to book a ticket to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

While attributing his side’s historic win over TP Mazembe to what he called “complete hard work”, Coach Owusu said the match was a game of mental toughness and it was the fittest, who survived at the end of the day.

In a telephone conversation with the Graphic Sports last Tuesday, an elated Coach Owusu said, “these people came to beat us and not to draw or lose and although they came with that intention, we surprised them. We know the calibre of players they have so I call them ‘Africa United’, but we made them small and we will repeat the dose against Bejaia, Insha Allah”.

“It was by dint of hard work and the boys did it perfectly. I am so proud of the players because they never gave up even in the dying minutes of the game and if they keep on like this they will go places,” he added.

According to the outspoken trainer, a semi-final berth is a done deal for Medeama as they are preparing assiduously to settle scores with MO Bejaia in the final Group A encounter slated for the Unite Maghrebine Stadium next Tuesday, August 23.

Meanwhile, the two-time MTN FA Cup champions trek to Bekwai this afternoon to face Bechem United in a mid-week fixture of the ongoing Ghana Premier League, but Coach Owusu says Medeama’s focus is more on continental glory.

Medeama netted in the third minute of injury time to snatch the much-needed victory in their penultimate one group game against TP Mazembe. Enoch Atta-Agyei, Moses Sarpong and Kwasi Donsu were on target for the Yellow and Mauves, while Jonathan Bolingi and Rainford Kalaba fetched Mazembe’s consolation goals.
