I’ll keep supporting ping-pong — Tachie-Menson

His love for table tennis is without question. He doesn’t mind staying hungry and using all his money to support his darling club, Tesano Spinners, sponsor players or donate to any table tennis activity. Indeed, during the course of the 2017 Stanbic Bank/Graphic Sports National Table Tennis League, Charles Richard Tachie-Menson spent a fortune to cater for the needs of his players to ensure they won both male and female titles.

When asked why he chose to invest that much in his club, Mr Charles Richard Tachie-Menson Jnr stated that his passion and love for the game of ping-pong superseded the other sports.
“When I was a student at Adisadel College in Cape Coast, I was a very good player. Unfortunately, I was unable to combine academics with playing the game as a professional. I wish I had done that since my love for the game was beyond measure.

“Since I wasn’t able to achieve this special heart desire, I took it upon myself to help promote the game with my resources. I have a table tennis board at home, and it is open to the public to use all-year-round without a fee. I also decided to manage Ghana’s number one player, Derek Abrefa, so he can win more laurels for Ghana,” he revealed.

In 2016, Mr Tachie-Menson Jnr, together with a few friends, decided to form a table tennis club called Tesano Spinners. A few senior high school graduates and professional workers were recruited to feature in the league.

“We, therefore, formed a female team as well and brought in professional table tennis players from Nigeria to augment the team. We invested an arm and a leg in this endeavour. We were not expecting any financial rewards but just the hope of winning the league while offering very strong competition to the rest of the teams were all we desired.’’

At the end of the 2017 league, Spinners proved phenomenal as they lifted both male and female titles without losing a single game.

At the awards ceremony to mark the end of the league, Mr Tachie-Menson Jnr was adjudged the Chairman of the Year — an award he would cherish for a long time. His team also won the Team of the Year award, Best Male and Best Female players of the season, Female Knockout trophy, as well as the Coach of the Year award.

He acknowledged the support of sponsors such as Dream Oval Limited, providers of Slydepay mobile application, Blessed Halleluyah Motors at Tabora Number 6, Mikado Limited, Early Days School at Tesano, Adisadel Old Boys Association and a host of others.
