Coach Avram Grant and his backroom staff have been told that the quarter-final bonus, as well as the qualification bonus for the game against Mauritius will be paid once the money is ready.

While Grant, whose contract with Ghana runs out at end of this month, has already left for the United Kingdom, one of his two foreign assistants, Gerard Nus from Spain, who was the video analyst for the Stars during their campaign in Gabon, is still in Accra, though it is unclear whether his stay has anything to do with the unpaid bonus.

The other assistant, Jamaican Jamie Lawrence, the physical trainer of the team, however, left days after the team had returned from Gabon.

A source at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that the officials’ bonus had not been paid, but said that was no issue as the affected persons had been told that the outstanding bonuses would be cleared as soon as the funds were made available.

“Payment of bonuses is not the responsibility of the FA. That is done directly by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the officers in charge have indicated that once the cash is ready, the cheques will be issued to the deserving people.

“They are aware so I don’t think it’s a big deal right now,” the GFA source, who dismissed claims that the non-payment had held up the video analyst in Accra, told the Graphic Sports.

Some local members of the backroom staff, who spoke to the Graphic Sports anonymously, confirmed the situation and said they had no idea when the money would be paid.

Asked if they were agitated by the situation, they answered in the negative but said they would, however, appreciate it if the outstanding bonuses were settled as soon as possible.
