Dreams FC accepts Division One demotion

Under-pressure Premier League side, Dreams FC, have thrown in the towel by accepting the decision of the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association to demote them to the Division One League and replace them with Tema Youth.

In a press release issued by the club’s administrative secretary, Theresa Nelly Slippi Mensah, the Dawu-based Dreams FC, although unhappy with the decision, had resolved to compete in the Division One League in the interest of Ghana Football.

"Consequently, notwithstanding the loss of financial resources by Dreams FC and the huge disappointment, it is the decision of the Board of Directors of our club and our legal team (as law abiding cooperate citizens, a model club and a member of the Ghana FA) that Dreams FC will put the interest of Ghana Football ahead of its own interest and accept the purported decision ...," the statement read.

However, the club indicated that it would seek a review of the ruling on their Sporting Director, Ibrahim Adam Dossey, who has been banned from football-related activities for five years for his role in the registration of the player who is at the centre of the drama, Cudjoe Mensah/Daniel Gorza.

The club thought the decision by the 2nd Appeals Committee to ban Ibrahim Adam Dossey was not fair because he (Dossey) was only invited to assist the Committee to do its work but was not a part of the protest case but was charged without being given a hearing," it added.

Dreams FC were punished by the newly-constituted Appeals Committee for using an unqualified player in a Division One League game against Tema Youth in the 2014/15 GN Bank Division One League season which they won 2-0.

The case, which was initially ruled in favour of Dreams FC by the GFA Disciplinary and Appeals Committees, saw Tema Youth pursuing the matter at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after exhausting all the legal procedures of the Ghana FA.

The latest decision by Dreams FC paves the way for the start of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League next month.
